Russel Brothers Ltd. of Owen Sound, Ontario was Canada's premier builder of Steelcraft tugs and workboats, vessels engineered to take decades of punishing commercial service and keep working. The Carolina Borealis began life as the Glenmont, a Glen-class naval tug launched October 27, 1943 and commissioned into Royal Canadian Navy service as a harbour tug at Halifax during the Second World War. After the war she went to the Province of Newfoundland's Ministry of Public Works, where she spent more than forty years as the working tug of St. John's harbour, pulling grounded freighters off the rocks and towing burning trawlers clear of the waterfront. Her exploits made national newspapers more than once.

Brought to Toronto in 1988 and comprehensively rebuilt between 2000 and 2001 by Borealis Cruises, she was re-registered as a new build (O.N. 824441) and converted for charter service. The result is something genuinely rare: a heavy steel Russel Brothers hull with a documented wartime and working pedigree, transformed into a spacious charter-capable vessel with the presence and sea-keeping ability only a true commercial tug can offer. For a buyer seeking a liveaboard, charter platform, or one-of-a-kind piece of Canadian maritime history, there is nothing else like her on the Great Lakes.
